About our Education Programs

 NEW SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR 2008/2009

All programs are developed to integrate the Ministry of Education learning outcomes.   Programs are designed to meet the needs of primary, intermediate and secondary level students.  These programs will inspire an appreciation for biology and nature and teach students hands-on skills.

Free Transportation Available for Field Trips!

The City of Kamloops offers the Class Rides Free Program, a program that allows students to experience the Kamloops Transit System free of charge for the purpose of traveling to and from a field trip. Animal Antics

Learn about why animals do the things they do.  Explore how biologists study animals in the wild and how zoos play an important role in research and conservation.

Grade: primary, intermediate and secondary

Animals in their Environment

Learn about what special adaptations animals need to survive.  Through hands on activities students will learn what factors influence animal populations.

Grade: primary, intermediate and secondary

Raptor Researcher

Explore how raptors play an important role in the ecosystem.  Be a biologist for a day and learn how researchers are monitoring wild populations.

Its Not Easy Being Green

Explore the world of amphibians through hands on activities.  This program will introduce students to amphibians and their ecosystems as well as factors influencing their decline.

Grade: primary, intermediate and secondary

Saving our Species

Students will examine how wildlife is impacted by changes in their environment and interaction with humans through hands on activities.

$100 PER PROGRAM

 (For a class of 20 - 30 students)

 $5 per student for a smaller class

IMAGINE….taking the time to really get to know a group of animals….

At nature school you will discover the true meaning of observation.  Nature school will give you an opportunity to discover relationships between animals and go beyond the experience of everyday visitors.  Students will gain an appreciation and respect for animals which is important in developing ideas and beliefs about conservation.

We have lots of educational tools that you are welcome to use during your visit.  The following resources are available for your use:

• Classroom Space including tables, chairs, and whiteboard
• Access to the Nature Exchange: rocks, fossils, plants, shells, insects and bio-facts
• Resources library
• Microscope and magnifying glasses
• Animal Encounter on request (a fee of $20 will apply)
• Self guided curriculum materials (they incorporate IRP’s for each grade)
• Unlimited access to the park for the day
